I am once again in Albuquerque, playing rehearsals for Opera Southwest’s production of Rossini’s “Guillaume Tell.” Of all the Rossini operas I’ve played (including Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Cenerentola, Il turco in Italia, Otello, Tancredi, L’itlaliana in Algeri), GT is the most compelling, surprising, most astonishing and thrilling. The cast (including Sean Anderson, Caroline Worra, Sharin Apostolou, Matthew Vickers, Justin Hopkins, Jeffrey Beruan, Xavier Prado Caceres, Josepn Cordove, Hans Tashjian, et al) is astounding. This might be the most exciting (and longest!) operas I’ve ever played. Performances are Oct 22-29 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, tickets are available here.
